Moneywise credit union is a financial co-operative, offering savings, loans and related services to our 6,800 members. Moneywise has ten staff led by our Chief Executive Officer, holds £2.5m in member deposits and currently has £1.6m out on loan.
Moneywise is a founder member of Northern Money, and is a participant in the Credit Union Expansion Project through which the Department for Work and Pensions is investing £38m to grow the UK credit union sector.
Moneywise is working with partner organisations in the region, including other credit unions and social housing providers, to develop innovative new services and collaborative ways of working. We aspire to double our membership over the next two years as a result of these initiatives.
We are now seeking a new non-executive Chair who is passionate about the services we provide, will provide inspirational leadership and can commit about 1 day per month to the organisation.
As Chair, you will:
· Lead the Board of Directors to develop Moneywise’s vision, set the strategic aims, ensure that plans and resources are in place for these to be delivered and that performance is effectively monitored, reviewed and improved;
· Provide independent judgement and advice and work with colleagues to provide inspiring leadership within a framework of prudent and effective controls, which enable risks to be assessed and managed;
· Act as an ambassador for Moneywise, networking and engaging with stakeholders and the local community, ensuring that the Board is aware of their views as well as promoting the interests of Moneywise regionally and locally;
· Ensure that Moneywise has a climate of openness and transparency and a framework of policies and procedures to respond effectively to the needs of its members and potential members, whilst meeting statutory and regulatory requirements.
For this position Moneywise requires someone experienced at working at a strategic level in organisations serving the public. You will have excellent communication skills and the personal credibility to build effective, sustainable relationships within Moneywise and with external partners, and have the ability to Chair the Board with a style that is inclusive and engaging.
The role is voluntary and unpaid.
Expressions of interest, accompanied by a brief statement summarising your qualifications and experience, are invited from potential applicants no later than Monday 28th April at 12pm.
The Board of Directors will review all expressions of interest at that point and determine an appropriate selection process.
